The National Examinations Council (NECO), on Tuesday,  said  4,223 candidates passed the 2009 November/December Senior School Certificate Examination (SSCE), recording  five credits and above.

The five credits included  English and Mathematics.

NECO Registrar, Professor  Promise Okpala, said this in Minna,  when the council released the results of   the examination. Okpala said the candidates who passed represented  1.8 per cent of  those who sat for the examination.

He said  12,197 candidates, representing 5.2 per cent, passed with five credits and above irrespective of  subjects.

The Registrar advised candidates who sat for the examination to use the same scratch card they used during their registration to access their results on the same web site.

The News Agency of Nigeria(NAN) reported that out of  the 245, 157 candidates who registered for the examination,  234, 682  sat for the examination held in 1,708 centres across the country.

Okpala also said the council recorded 236, 613 cases of examination malpractice in the examination.

“Analysis of  malpractice by state, subject and type showed that there are 236,613 cases,” he said.

He said there were 82,647 cases of  aiding and abetting as well as seeking and receiving help from non- candidates.

Other cases were mass cheating; 65,348, impersonation; 40, 876 and irregular activities inside or outside the examination hall; 12, 728.

He said cheating detected at marking venue (double script) were 12, 502, bringing in of foreign materials inside the hall; 6, 212, collective insult and violent behaviour; 4, 618 and absent but had answer script; 4, 299 cases.

Also cited  were collusion; 1, 761, use of electronic communication gadgets inside the hall; 1,436, cheating detected at marking venue (copying foreign materials); 1, 279 and bringing in electronic communication gadgets into the hall; 1, 049 cases.
