Senate Committee on Defence, has summoned the top hierachy of the Nigerian Army to appear before it over the Jos massacre, in which over 400 people lost their lives.

The invitation was announced  by the Chairman of the Committee, Senator Ibrahim Idah, while answering questions from Senate correspondents  during a briefing by Senator Ayogu Eze, the Senate Committee Chairman on Media and Information.

Senator Idah commended the military for its good jobs in times of internal crisis across the country and said  that the committee would like to know what the Army was doing over the incident.

According to him “The Senate President has released a statement concerning this issue, the crux of the statement is that our security forces, the army and the Police are doing a very good job trying to curb crisis nationwide. It is natural that some people will criticise here and there. That should not becloud the objective.”

He said though the Senate was not unmindful of the critical roles of the military during crisis, but that it was normal for people to complain when things go wrong, saying that was why his committee invited them to shed light on some of the issues involved in Jos crisis.
