The Petroleum and Natural Gas Senior Staff Association (PENGASSAN) has charged the Federal Government to be more accountable and sincere to the citizens, saying that lack of accountability and ownership was part of the reasons refineries had not effectively worked in Nigeria.

The association, speaking through its national president, Comrade Babatunde Ogun, told journalists in Lagos on Tuesday, that if the refineries were allowed to function without undue pressure they would be more accountable and efficient to address the peoples’ needs.

“We believe that if anything is left off the hook by government agencies, they are going to perform maximally beyond expectation”, Ogun assured.

He also said that the Petroleum Industry Bill (PIB) which was before the National Assembly should be made public to ensure that the interests of oil workers were adequately represented.
