The Commander, National Drug Law Enforcement Agency, Borno State Command, Dr. Wale Ige, has said that the agency is worried over the persistent outcry among communities in the state on the rampant consumption of illicit drugs.

Dr. Ige made this known on Tuesday, at the NDLEA state headquarters in Maiduguri, while warning politicians in the state against drug use in the build-up for electioneering towards the 2011 elections in the state.

He said, “communities are increasingly worried about the involvement of their youths in drug abuse, especially because of the attendant social consequences such as increased criminality, intimidation and harassment of innocent persons by these youths after drug consumption.”

The commander said, most times, the  youth were often assigned the role of political thugs and are drugged in such a way that they lacked focus and a sense of direction even though it would not be said that the youth themselves were innocent because sometimes,  they willingly offer themselves for such service.
