Amnesty for Boko Haram will not work -Rep

Share

Member of the House of Representatives representing Ekiti South Federal Constituency II, Mr Bamidele Faparusi, has said amnesty for Boko Haram members terrorising the Northern part of the country will not work.

Faparusi, who made this assertion during an interaction with newsmen in Ado Ekiti, on Monday, said amnesty for the group was not practicable because “you can only grant amnesty to someone you see.”

He said it was wrong to liken the Boko Haram problem with that of the Niger Delta, explaining that while the militants in the Niger Delta were asking for development and preservation of the environment, “no one knows exactly what the Boko Haram is fighting for.”

According to him, amnesty could only work for the group if the leaders were identified and what they are fighting for known, adding that, “we knew the militants, we knew people like Asari Dokubo, Ateke Tom and the rest.”

He said, “it will be wrong for people to be comparing the agitation at the Niger Delta with that of Boko Haram.”
