Operatives of the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) in Minna, Niger State claimed they had arrested one person in connection with the bombing at the venue of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) zonal rally in Suleja last week.

The commander of the agency, Abdul Abdullahi, paraded one Zakararaya Garba before newsmen last Saturday evening having been caught with items suspected to be explosives.

Abdullahi said the suspect was arrested with metallic substances suspected to be bomb a few kilometres from the Government Secondary School, Suleja where the explosion that killed at least 10 people took place.

The commander explained that his men on motorised patrol along Kaduna/Abuja road at New Wuse in Tafa Local Government area of the state nabbed the suspect with the dangerous substances at about 11.30 p.m.

Narrating how the suspect was arrested, the commander said his men at the old Toll Gate in New Wuse stopped a Kaduna bound bus conveying the suspect and 17 other passengers during a stop and search exercise which led to the discovery of the substances including a tiger dry cell battery.

He submitted that his men, who initially were searching for hard drugs, were shocked to find the suspect with two canisters of explosives wrapped in a cream lace material and concealed in a black nylon bag to beat the prying eyes of security operatives.

“Luck however, ran against the suspect when he was asked to disclose the content of the nylon bag he carried and he refused”, Abdullahi said.
