Bauchi State Police Command has confirmed the arrest and detention of a member of the state House of Assembly, Rifkatu ‘Baby’ Samson representing Bogoro state constituency for what it described as conspiracy and inciting public disturbance in Tafawa Balewa.

Confirming the arrest to the Nigerian Tribune, the state Police Commissioner, Atiku Yusuf Kafur, said that the member was picked up in Bauchi following information that she was inciting members of the public in order to cause confusion which might lead to crisis in the area, an offence said to be punishable under the law if found guilty and convicted.

The Police Commissioner who spoke through the Police Public Relations Officer (PPRO), Mohammed Barau, also said that investigation were still going on to ascertain the allegations against her after which she would be prosecuted, adding that for now she was on police bail, but she would be reporting at the SCID on a daily basis until such a time that investigations would be concluded.

But in her reaction to the issue, Samson in a telephone interview with the Nigerian Tribune said, “yes, I was arrested and detained by the Police, as I am talking to you, I am at the State CID and has just been told that I will be charged to court but they have not told me which court, as soon as they tell me, I will let you know.”
