My victory not based on security reports —Mimiko

Share

THE Ondo State governor, Dr Olusegun Mimiko, has chided his predecessor, Dr Olusegun Agagu, over allegations that he used forged security reports to win the long drawn legal battle for the governorship of the state.

Agagu had, in a petition to President Goodluck Jonathan, alleged that he lost the governorship of the state because the judiciary relied “substantially on fake security reports tendered by Mimiko.”

Based on the petition, one of Mimiko's lawyers, Mr Remi Olatubora, was invited by the State Security Services (SSS).

Olatubora disclosed that the SSS asked him how Mimiko's legal team came about the reports and I told them that the reports were deposited in my office alongside many others before I came back from  detention where I was clamped by PDP in the wake of the election. So, I did not know who got them.

But what is important is that the Appeal Court established that the denial of the SSS officer was false.’’

Governor Mimiko, speaking through the state's Commissioner for Information, Mr Ranti Akerele, said in Lagos, on Sunday, that the judgements of both the Garba Nabaruma-led Election Petition Tribunal and the Court of Appeal practically ignored the security reports, but relied heavily on other verifiable facts to arrive at their verdicts.

In a statement by Mimiko entitled: “Are these men without shame?,” said Agagu should channel his energy in other directions.

The statement reads: “Government considers the statement credited to Agagu that the judgment which sup-ended his electoral usurpation and upturned his reign of lawlessness in Ondo State was premised on a security report as yet another shameless lie, a fabrication of unimaginable proportion and a characteristic decoy by a man who has been known to concoct just anything for political gains.”
