MINISTER of Environment, Mr John Odey, in Abuja, on Thursday, tasked the leadership of National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) to be up and doing in the management of disasters when the need arise in the county.

He also advised that the agency should collaborate with relevant agencies as to achieve proper management of disasters when the need arises.

Odey gave the charge when acting Director-General of NEMA, Mr Charles Agbo and other top hierarchy staff of the agency paid the minister a visit in his office.

According to the minister, “if NEMA is not well-positioned in all the various states and with clear communication where your response will be appreciably fast, then it will hinder your operations.”

He, however, suggested to the management of the agency to liaise closely with all other agencies that played complimentary roles.

Earlier, the NEMA acting DG had told the minister that the meeting was as a result of the desire of the agency to partner and collaborate with the minister on environment-induced disaster.
