Outer lane of Lagos - Badagry Expressway may be opened today

BarRing any unforeseen circumstances, the outer lane of the Lagos – Badagry expressway from Orile to Mile Two will be opened this week to traffic, to enable the contractors, Julius Berger Nigeria Plc, to concentrate construction efforts towards the central areas of the road.

This clarification has become necessary following earlier reports that the multibillion naira road contract awarded to Julius Berger Nigeria Plc has been terminated.

But speaking at one of the project sites of the Lagos – Badagry Expressway at Alafia Bridge, Orile, Wednesday, the Special Adviser to the Lagos State governor on Works and Infrastructure, Mr Abiodun Johnson, said the state government was determined to complete the Lagos – Badagry Expressway by 2011.

He regretted that the road project lost some time due to problems associated with right of way.

According to Johnson, all those displaced by the right of way who had shown up with evidence of ownership of such properties along the stretch of right of way from Eric Moore end of the road to Maza Maza had been compensated.
