IN what appeared a test of the pulse of Lagos residents, scores of admirers of former  military president, General Ibrahim Baban-gida, on Thursday, staged a public rally to drum up support for his presidential ambition.

Bearing posters eulogising the former leader, the campaigners were sighted on Opebi Road and Allen Avenue in Ikeja, as they beckon other Lagosians to back him in his quest to return to power next year.

They were led by the state coordinator of IBB for President, Prince Ebunola Martins, who claimed that Babangida was in a good stead to clinch Peo-ples Democratic ticket for the presidential election.

He said the rally was meant to establish that that IBB enjoyed a grass-roots support in the state contrary to insinuations in certain circles.

“That is why you saw people coming out in their thousands to show their support for him. We believe so much in IBB, because  since he left, no other leader has been able to match what he did as President,” Martins claimed.
