THE Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), on Thurs-day, said it was yet to release guidelines for the 2011 general election, contrary to speculations by some national dailies.

The PDP said the reports on its purported release of election guidelines were far from the truth, adding that the intent of such reports was to create confusion among party members.

It said it could not have contemplated releasing guidelines for party members when, indeed, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) was yet to come out with its own guidelines for political parties.

A national daily had, on Thursday, reported that the PDP had fixed date of its congresses.

But in a reaction, the national publicity secretary of the party, Professor Rufai Alkali, said “we wish to state categorically that the purported guidelines published in newspapers are false and have no bearing whatsoever on the PDP.

“For the avoidance of the doubt, guidelines for the conduct of primaries are still being processed and are dependent on the release of a comprehensive electoral timetable by the INEC.”

Alkali, however, advised members of the party to disregard any published guidelines and await the final decision of the National Executive Committee (NEC) on the issue.

Meanwhile, the national chairman of the party, Dr Okwesilieze Nwodo, has congratulated President Goodluck Jonathan and other leaders of the party on the 12th year anniversary of the PDP.

The chairman, in a memo to the president and party leaders, said “today, that vision of unity and freedom has endured and has continued to grow from strength to strength. Due to the sustenance of this dream, the electoral fortunes of the party have continued to improve over the years.”

Nwodo said since the past 12 years, the PDP had witnessed unprecedented reign of stability in the country, through the leadership it had been providing for the country.

He recalled that it was the PDP which created the atmosphere for democracy to thrive in Nigeria, having sucessfully midwifed the first ever civilian-to-civilian transition in the country.

He also spoke on the economy of the country, which, he said, had witnessed a quantum leap in the last 11 years.
