The nine reinstated members of the Oyo State House of Assembly, who were to resume sitting today (Thursday) after the June 8 bloody violence on the floor of the House, have raised the alarm on alleged threat to their lives.

The lawmakers, who secured a court injunction in their favour, on Wednesday, last week, quoted the Speaker of the House, Honourable Atilola Moroof, as saying that the safety of their lives was not guaranteed if they  stepped their feet on the floor of the House.

They said they had reported the matter to the state Commissioner of Police and Director of State Security Service (SSS), adding that they had planned to resume sitting today as ordered by an Ibadan High Court judge, Justice Morufu Adegbola.

But in a swift reaction, the speaker, Honourable Atilola, described the claim as untrue, saying that the majority-leader who made the allegation against him of planning to attack them through the use of hoodlums should not be taken serious.

“Is anybody chasing them away from the House? Let them come and continue their duties. They are elected representatives of their people. So why will I send hoodlums after them,” Atilola queried.

Atilola added that it was Adejumobi who threatened to bring thugs and large followers to the floor tomorrow (Thursday) and that they were ready “to deal with me and my people and I said I don’t bulge.

If he likes he should bring the people of the entire state.

“I am a peace lover. I pursue my duties legitimately. The court has given judgment in their favour and what else do you want me to do other than to obey the court’s judgment. It is now for them to resume and I didn’t say their security could not be guaranteed,” he declared.
