GOVERNOR Ali Modu Sheriff of Borno State has said the state government has spent the sum of N100 million for the treatment of cholera epidemic, which is ravaging the state as a result of contaminants in the water, which the affected people drank.

The governor made the revelation, on Wednesday, while briefing the press at the Government House, Maiduguri, about the steps taken by the state government to curtail the spread of the rampaging epidemic, which had already claimed several lives in many parts of the state.

Governor Sheriff said that according to the analysis carried out by the University of Maiduguri Teaching Hospital (UMTH), the cholera epidemic was caused by chemicals used by farmers in food preservation and sprayed on farmlands for the control of weeds and pests.

He said that some disgruntled opposition politicians were taking advantage of the spread of the cholera epidemic to play politics, which he said was not fair.
