THE Ogun State governor, Chief Gbenga Daniel, on Wednesday, decried the level of insecurity in the state, saying that the 34-year-old state is under-policed.

He disclosed this at the handing over of a Armoured Personnel Carrier (APC) to the Nigeria Police, Ogun State command, adding that  the issue of security should not be left in the hands of government alone.

He urged individuals, institutions and private sector to assist the government at all levels in securing the lives and properties of Nigerians.

Daniel commended the effort of the officers and men of the Nigeria Police in Zone 2, comprising Lagos and Ogun states, especially the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr Taiwo Lakanu, for relocating to the state, in ensuring effective policing.

Daniel appealed to the Federal Government to increase mobile police base in the state, saying that the state had serious security challenge confronting it.

The governor said the state had become an urban state, with the level of unprecedented development being witnessed in the state since the administration came on board in 2003.

He added that the state faced the challenge of policing 17 urban locations spread across the state, while lamenting that with only one Mopol base, effective policing could not be achieved.
