No fewer than 10 students of the University of Ado-Ekiti (UNAD) have been arrested by the police, while six others were arraigned over the attack on the state governor, Mr Segun Oni, on Monday.

Of the 10 arrested culprits who were paraded before journalists, on Tuesday, nine claimed to be students of the university, while one, 21-year-old Ajala Tope, claimed to be a National Diploma (ND) 1 Accountancy student of the Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti.

Six of them were brought before an Ado-Ekiti magistrate’s court, on Wednesday, to answer to various charges relating to the protest staged on Monday.

The Assistant Commissioner of Police in charge of state command of the Criminal Investigation Department (CID), Mr Suleiman Isa, who disclosed the arrests in Ado-Ekiti, said about six vehicles were damaged during the protest on the university campus.

He said the police had commenced investigations into the involvement of the students, adding that those who had case to answer would be arraigned in court by the command.

The protest, which was said to have embarrassed the governor, nearly marred the 2010 distinguished lecture of the institution, which was delivered by the Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Oluseyi Petinrin.

The students, who were all male, included Oluwatuyi Olufemi, 24; Isiaka Muri, 25; Fadoju Olubode, 19; Lawal Oluwaseyi, 18; Oladeinde Kehinde, 24 and Akinsola Busuyi, 24.
