Why we paid 1 kobo into pensioners’ accounts -FG

THE Head of the Civil Service of the Federation, Mr. Stephen Oronsaye, has explained the rationale behind the payment of one kobo into the federal pensioners’ accounts as some of them have started raising concerns on the sum of one kobo credited to their accounts from the Federal Pension Office.

He said that the payment of the sum of one kobo into the account of pensioners was an aspect of the ongoing verification exercise and should not be considered as a part of the normal monthly pension payment.

Oronsaye, in a statement in Abuja, on Wednesday, and signed by the Deputy Director of Press and Public Relations in his office, Mr. Tope Ajakaiye, added that the one kobo payment was made in order to test the validity of pensioners’ accounts since errors were discovered in the details given by some pensioners during the verification exercise.

He said further that during the biometric enrolment exercise, pensioners who were successfully verified received the June pension payment through the issuance of e-cheques on site, while the July pension had been paid directly into their accounts.

To solve the problem of incorrect account details, the Head of Service said that the Federal Pension Office would soon publish the names of affected pensioners and also outline the process of rectifying them.
