Unfolding indication is to the effect that the Nigerian Shippers Council (NSC) is presently being inundated with letters of commendation by shippers, with many of them, commending the Federal Government for its new initiative towards reducing business cost at the Nigerian ports.

It would be recalled that the Nigerian Tribune, only a few days ago, reported that the council, in line with the new government’s new gesture targeted towards promoting cordiality and cost effectiveness, had adopted shippers-centered gestures.

A council staffer, who spoke on condition of anonymity, while lauding the Nigerian Tribune for its good works, explained that between last year and now, the council had actually received over a hundred letters of appreciation or commendation from port users, either affirming satisfaction with the way their cases were handled; or lauding the NSC on the way it bailed out their business colleagues.

 “We received a letter on May 14, 2012, from the Real-Dan Integrated Services Ltd., thanking us for helping their client, Palmex Nig. Ltd. to resolve issues relating to over charges by a terminal operator”, he disclosed, flipping up a letter, which commended the government’s unfolding programme through the council.

Reading the letter signed by the company’s Managing Directorwas one Prince Adeniran Adeniyi: “We hereby convey our heartfelt thanks to you for the valuable help extended to our client, Palmex Nig. Ltd., in procuring his overcharged charges on his consignment by Five Star logistic. Without your active intervention, it would have not been possible at all. Your efforts so far have shown to us and many other importers that indeed you are a defender and very reliable.”

He also showed another letter from the foreign shipping giant, the Maersk line, acknowledging that the council’s intervention in disputes between parties at the ports, was in deed praise worthy.

Dated April 27, 2012, the shipping company highlighted that council’s intervention in respect of claims over alleged damage to container No Msku0052817, bill of lading No 860499829 had been a great relief.

Wrote the company: “Kindly be informed that following your intervention, we have re-opened our files in this matter and after deliberation, have made a revised offer of USD 15,000 to the claimant.
