SINCE we have been practising democracy, Nigerians have been going from one hardship to the other.

Today, the country is so insecure that everybody lives in fear, especially the fear of the Boko Haram violence.

However, in order to change this, we need to have quality leaders who can tackle such violence, and that is why the 2015 elections is so important for the country.

However, in order for people to make a proper choice, the election must be free and fair.

The Congress for Progressive Change (CPC) lawmakers in Kaduna State have warned that there will be violence in the country if President Goodluck Jonathan’s administration fails to conduct a transparent election in 2015. They warned that if the People’s Democratic Party (PDP) rigs the 2015 election, there would be bloodbath.

The election in 2015 is likely to be a battle for power among the CPC, ACN, and PDP. This was led to the latest development on negotiations between the CPC and ACN to merge and present a presidential candidate to defeat the PDP in 2015.

The eastern region of Nigeria is moving to work towards an Igbo presidency. The national body of the Igbo Leadership Development Foundation, an Igbo social-cultural and pressure group,  has revealed that come 2015, it is ready to present a common candidate from the South East, who will serve as president of this country.

Also, optimistic about the 2015 election, the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) chairman, Professor Attahiru Jega, said the 2015 general election would be the best ever conducted in the country based on strategies now in place.

He assured Nigerians that INEC would achieve a seamless integration of the data of voters and institutionalise continuous voter registration before the 2015 general election.

Between now and 2015, INEC will put many structures in place to ensure that the 2015 election is not only the best in the history of our country, but also the most accepted by the citizens.

It’s 2012 already, the cacophony of what will be in 2015 has begun. From PDP to the opposition parties like the CPC, ACN, ANPP, and ACCORD, amongst others, the journey has begun.

So, very soon, potential candidates will start wooing the electorate, but it is the responsibility of all Nigerians not to vote on the basis of ethnicity, but on the qualities a candidate possess, which will then transform the country into the one we have been dreaming of.
