INEC, attend to our plight

Share

THE Peoples De-mocratic Party (PDP) members in Irepo, Orelope,Olorunsogo Federal Constituency are asking the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) what offence we have committed, because of the attitude of INEC to our plight.

First of all, we are suffering for the negligence of INEC to include the picture and logo of the DPP candidate in the ballot paper of April 2011 election, which denied us victory at the tribunal.

Now, we had the rerun under the siege of the Oyo State government, the interim chairmen of the 33 local government areas of Oyo State, and the large number of hoodlums in their company. The election was held under palpable fear by our supporters, who were scared away by the sound of gunshots, day and night since Thursday, January 26, the day Governor Ajimobi came to the area for his campaign.

The security operatives and the INEC officials were able to witness the display of power by the Action Congress of Nigeria (ACN) chieftains and their errand boys, which led to the arrest of over 150 hoodlums. Many sophisticated weapons, ammunitions and charms were found with them. It was by God’s grace and the promptness of the security agencies that prevented blood flow.

INEC is now planning to deny us our victory again by asking us to go for a rerun in the cancelled seven units disrupted by the thugs. What is the percentage of the seven units in comparism to over 200 units in the Constituency to delay the result of our election?

In the interest of fair play, security of life and property, the INEC should stop dancing to the tune of the state government and the ACN by declaring the result of the re-election and the winner of the election without further delay.

Chief Jacob Adetoro,
Asiwaju of Igbeti and PDP Chieftain, Oyo State.
