THE West African Examination Council (WAEC) will commence  its examination for the Senior Secondary School Certificate on March 29, 2010. A serious student, who is keenly determined to gain admission to the university next year, should by now be burning the midnight candle in preparation for the examination, instead of staying glued to the television, watching both local and international football Premier leagues.

Students are finding it difficult to make at least six credits at a sitting when they sit for the Senior Secondary School Certificate Examination and this is largely because of their unserious attitude to studies.

Parents on their part do not hesitate to put the blame of such woeful  failure of their children on the state government.

I want to appeal to the state government to be more committed to payment of teacher’s salary on time, so that they would be more devoted to their duties. The state government must do something urgent about students’ lukewarmness to their studies since it is paying for this examination. Though, Governor Adebayo Alao-Akala has directed the Commissioner for Education, Prof. Taoheed Adedoja to conduct a test for all the students so as to detect the serious and unserious  among them, it is still the duty of the government to fish out unserious students for punitive measures who whose resolve is to waste government’s money.
