The Muslim Students Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Oyo State Area Unit, has called on the Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Professor Attahiru Jega, to write his name on the positive side of the history book by conducting credible elections come 2011.

This call was part of the communique issued by the body at the end of its 1431 A.H. (2010) transitional conference, held at the University of Ibadan, last weekend.

The MSSN noted that time had come for the country to move forward in all ramifications, and a free and fair election next year remained a key to achieving such lofty goal.

It then tasked all Nigerians, especially the government, to give necessary support to the electoral body by making it truly independent in its operations.

The body warned the masses not to sell their future by refraining from money politics, saying that Nigerians must learn to defend their rights.

On the deteriorating security situation in the country, the MSSN expressed concern that the issue was getting out of hand and was already driving the nation to the back seat in the comity of nations. It noted that the efforts of the government at turning around the fortunes of the country could only be fruitful if concrete steps were taken to secure lives and properties of citizens.

The communique also frowned at the standstill in the negotiations between the Oyo State government and the striking teachers, stating that the ugly situation portended a great danger for the future of the students. The body specifically called on the Oyo State government to put education on a sound footing in the state as the development of a community hinged on development of its youth.

Meanwhile, the Oyo State Area Unit of the MSSN has put in place new executive members to pilot the affairs of the body for the next two years.

Dr. Taokeek Yakeen emerged as the new Amir, while Mallam Shakrullah Adedoja and Husayn Tajudeen became the Naibul Amir and General Secretary respectively.

Abdul Wakeel Olaleye takes  the position of the Public Relations Officer while Lateefah Gazali emerged as the Amirah.
