The Nigerian Supreme Council for Islamic Affairs (NSCIA) has proffered solution to the country’s problems, saying that it entails sacrifice, dialogue and understanding. The council, in a communiqué issued at the end of its national executive council meeting held at the conference hall, Jama’atul Nastril Islam, Kaduna, recently, called on all national stakeholders to eschew greed and self-centeredness so that the nation could move forward and safeguard its strategic interests.

In the communiqué, which was signed by the NSCIA Secretary General, Dr Abdul Lateef Adegbite, the council called on Nigerians to begin to look into the future with hope and confidence and to strive first and foremost to ensure that foundation of Nigeria's political system was strengthened.

It also called on the National Assembly and all tiers of government not to relent in the current efforts at electoral reform and ensure that Nigerians have a genuine electoral process that guarantees free and fair election, failing which the country will continue to be haunted by the unholy alliance between fraudulent elections and illegitimate electoral outcomes.

According to NSCIA, this vicious circle must be broken and that Nigerians must be accorded the power and ability to decide freely and willingly who leads them at all levels of governance.

It said that Nigeria could not make genuine progress as a nation when a significant number of Nigerians wallow in abject poverty, denied good health and qualitative education, saying that democracy must build a humane society capable of looking after the legitimate needs of the citizenry.
