A new Chief Imam of Tonkere Land in Ayedaade Local Government Area of Osun State has been

appointed and installed by the League of Imams and Alfas in the state.

He is Khalifat Sheikh Abdulsemiu Abdulraheem who succeeds the late Chief Imam of the town, Alhaji Arasi Akinrinola.

With his appointment and official installation at a ceremony held at Community High School.

Tonkere, Khalifat Abdulraheem has  become a full member of the League of Imams and Alfas in Osun state.

An indigene of Abese Community in Tonkere, near Ode-Omu, Sheikh Abdulsemiu, son of late Alhaji Iliyasi Abdulraheem, is a product of Mahdu Arabiyyah Islamic School, Sekona, near Ede.

He later proceeded to Markaz Shababul Islamic School in the ancient Iwo town, where he spent four years to acquire more Islamic education.

Until his appointment, he had  been Mufasir for eight years and later became Noib, for four  years  before his new   status.

Speaking at the installation, the Chief Imam of Offa, Sheikh Muhydeen Hussein, congratulated the Tonkere Muslim community for choosing their Chief Imam in a rancor free atmosphere.

Sheikh Hussein, who was the guest speaker, said that the appointment was historical and landmark and called on Muslim communities in the country to learn from Tonkere on how to choose Islamic leaders.

The Imam Agba of Offa, who was at the ceremony with a retinue of Imams and Alfas spoke on “ Destiny in Islam” and charged Muslims to always allow their leaders  to emerge in line with Islamic injunctions.

He warned that appointments of Chief Imams should not be politicized or turned to do or die affairs that may hamper the growth and spread of Islamic religion.
