FORMER national  president of the  National Council of Muslim Youth Organisations (NACOMYO), Alhaji Kunle Sanni, has urged members of the kitchen cabinet of ailing President Umaru Yar’Adua to learn political lessons from the recent coup de’tat in neighbouring Niger Republic by subjecting themselves to the

provisions of the Nigerian constitution.

Addressing journalists in Ibadan recently after a Maolud Nabbiyi lecture organised by NACOMYO at the Central Mosque, Oja’ba, Ibadan, Alhaji Sanni described the impasse in Nigeria’s political scene as a constitutional issue which should not have dragged to the present ugly scenario.

He, however, blamed the negative development in the political scene on members of the kitchen cabinet of the ailing president whom he accused of working for their selfish interest.

His words:  “It is not Yar’Adua that is the problem but members of his kitchen cabinet who are bothered by their parochial interest rather than the overall interest of the nation.”

While urging members of the Yar’Adua kitchen cabinet to be more patriotic and retrace their steps by abiding with the nation’s constitution, Alhaji Sanni explained that this was imperative to avoid the recent Niger Republic scenario in Nigeria.

He also advised the Yar’Adua sympathisers to learn from the Cuban example where erstwhile President Fidel Castro voluntarily relinquished power as a result of his failing health, saying that Nigeria cannot under any guise be an exemption to compliance with the rule of law.

Islamic leaders from different parts of Oyo State had earlier stressed the need for justice and equity in the national political scene.

concluding that where there is no justice, there would be no peace.

The forum also called on Islamic leaders nationwide to rise up for truth in all its ramifications to save Nigeria from collapsing.
