Primate Theophilus Olabayo of the Evangelical Church of Yaweh is viewed from several and different perspectives by different persons. Prevailing historical accounts which deal with his numerous prophecies pertaining to events and personages of our country will someday be put in proper perspective by scholars who are bound to reflect deeply on the man and his ulterior motives as he time after time ascends his spiritual Mount Taborah to pray and get revelations concerning our country.

Is he genuine? Is he a fabricator of lies fashioned to hoodwink the gullible public including the power politicians and their disciples? Should we discountenance his dreams and predictions pertaining to our national destiny and democratic design? Are his Mount Taborah spiritual and esoteric ideals the types to be accepted by our leaders who ought to yield to their directional goals?

Primate Theophilus Olabayo is a leading prophet of our clime and time. He may not be as endowed as Dr. Michael Nostradamus, the eternally great French medical doctor and first rate mystic of wonderful sight, insight and perception, who saw happenings and events far, far beyond his time and into centuries and centuries ahead of his. Primate Olabayo may not be a Sir William Hope, the Scottish astrologer who made predictions with profound insight and esoteric accuracy. But it is clear that the Primate has spiritual power whose secret cannot be attributed to dangerous sorcery - unless adept scholars and researchers of such matters, and members of the Primate’s evangelical flock have and provide evidence to counter our certainty on this score. Indeed, until otherwise proved evidentially, the Primate is a worthy seer and prophet of our era and time, who prays and fasts and practises vigils on Mount Taborah, year in year out and time after time for the benefit of our country and mankind.

I have not met him in flesh and blood, but I have read him. In fact, the Primate and the late parapsychologist Okunzua pioneered public and political prophecies in our country in their endeavour to directionalise our leaders along the path of integrity in governance, and their wish to establish eternal cohesion and peace among our ethnic nationalities and peoples.

However, unlike Okunzua whose predictions were laced with esoterically parapsychological and parapsychologically esoteric messages, Primate Olabayo’s visions and prophecies of the public domain are usually exoteric in nature. They generally are not usually couched in hidden symbols and  fables that derive their power in elaborate concealment. Because his prophecies usually are devoid of mystery, I find and regard them as highly valuable. Yet many there are who pooh-pooh his prophecies and call him a prophet of doom. But I insist that the Primate’s prophecies are usually positively critical and exceedingly constructive despite their sometimes dark and portentous revelations.

Now, where is all this leading to? Simply, to this destination: the Mount Taborah of Nigeria’s political destiny and democratic design.

Let us recount some of the Primate’s recent predictions. He rightly and accurately predicted the late President Yar’Adua’s death. He also, in the not too distant past, foresaw that the late Bola Ige would die in the hands of those he was going to work for. Of course, he warned him against working for his eventual killers. He also predicted the late Alfred Rewane’s death and several other political killings, all of which affect, negatively, today our political circumstance. If we had diligently and truly fasted and yearningly prayed then those political deaths would have been averted, and the politics of the South West and of the Niger Delta would have not been what they are today, and by extension the current political circumstance of Nigeria would not have been navigated to its present port and point. In fact, that the oceans of our politics are as agitated as they are today and are laden with mud and slime that would cease navigation temporarily but dismally and tragically to the port of peace, we can attribute to our failure to listen and hearken to such prophecies. But who is that worthy prophet truly accepted and honoured in his clime?

Now, the Primate not long ago foresaw that President Jonathan would have problem with his Niger Delta people. The October 1 Abuja alleged bombing by MEND proved the Primate right once again. Of course, more trouble would come, according to the Primate, from the Niger Delta just as we should expect more bombs. But can all these be prevented? Well, what will be will be, no matter how we try not to make them be. Conversely, what will not be will not be, no matter how hard we try to make them be. On Wednesday, October 20, last Wednesday to be precise, all our leading national dailies including our dear, dear Tribune carried the critical news that MEND was not yet through with President Jonathan. Is the Primate not again correct after all?

Should President Jonathan contest the 2011 Presidential election? Hear the seer: “The issue of zoning and no zoning is an ingredient for trouble. Jonathan should be careful so that it will not be said at the end of the day that he pulled down the house he tried to help build. The man needs to seek the face of God before jumping into the race. Nigerians should pray that God should guide him aright… I was on Mount Taborah and saw gunmen pointing their guns at Nigerians. And God told me that those were evil men planning secretly to cause trouble in the country before the election in 2011…. President Jonathan and Nigerians must seek the face of God to disarm the evil men who are currently planning secretly to plunge Nigeria into crisis. If they succeed, the country will burn, like a volcano. The international community will find it extremely hard to put off…” (Sunday Sun, August 15, 2010, page 8).

Are the words contained in this prophecy a fabrication of lies fashioned to deceive the unwary? Or are they words of truth that with time reveal the true and secret destiny of Nigeria? Are we going to veer further and further from the great mission of our democratic destiny? Are troublous times coming with great emergencies to threaten our entire national enterprise? And whose political creed, doctrine or conviction – if any – is Primate Olabayo’s prophecy trying to perpetuate?
