NMA upholds Oyo doctors’ election

The Nigerian Medical Association (NMA) at the end of its emergency meeting in Abuja on Sunday, upheld the election of Dr Ade Malomo and the subsequent investiture of the newly elected Oyo State NMA Officers Committee.

This followed the report of the 3-man fact-finding delegation to Oyo State to look into the circumstances surrounding the conduct of the 2012 NMA elections in the state.

The 3-man fact finding delegation, which included Dr Bukar A. Grema, NMA Vice President 1 and Dr Akpufuoma Pemu, had noted that the impasse in Oyo State NMA was triggered by disagreements over a pre-existing gentleman’s agreement.

This was part of the resolution of the body at the end of the emergency meeting of the National Officers of the Nigerian Medical Association held at its national secretariat.

In a communique issued at the end of the meeting, the body directed the immediate past Oyo State branch Chairman, Dr Millicent Obajimi, to immediately hand over all properties and instruments of Oyo state NMA in her possession to the newly elected state officers under the chairmanship of Dr Ade. Malomo.

The body however frowned at the inconsistencies of the Dr. M. Obajimi-led state officers committee which contributed to the current impasse.

On account of the failure of Niger, Jigawa and Edo State branches of NMA to conduct their state branch elections, the body dissolved the NMA state branch officers committee of these states and constituted caretaker committees to oversee the affairs of the association.
