The Plateau State chapter of the Association of Local Government of Nigeria (ALGON) has frowned at the mode of operations of the Special Task Force in some communities in the state, saying it was wrong for the task force to announce on the air that it was going after the

terrorists that recently raided some communities in the state.

The STF had, on July 14, ordered residents of five villages, including Mahanga, Kakuruk, Kuzen, Maseh, Shong one and two in Barki Ladi and Riyom local government areas of the state to vacate their settlements within 48 hours to enable them carry out military operations against  terrorists who before now had  launched series of attacks on the villagers leading to several deaths.

Speaking with newsmen, the state chairman of ALGON, Honourable Emmanuel Loman, said since the STF carried out the operation last month, the people  of the affected communities were yet to experience any tangible peace.

He said  just last week, the Fulani killed three Tarok people in the Langtang axis of the state, recalling also that some people in Gashit District who went to apply fertilizer on their farms were attacked. He said the axies prone to attacks were still experiencing horrible attacks from the neighbouring Fulani.

He said, “You see, the problem I have with the ongoing operation is the way and manner they set out to carry out the exercise in the first place.

“How do you explain a situation where they went on air to announce their plans to go after the terrorists before carrying out the operation proper. Is that not funy?

“Will the enemy be there waiting for the soldiers to come and swoop on them? So it smacks of lack of genuine desire on their part to apprehend the terrorists who had been killing the villagers with impunity”.

The ALGON Chairman pointed out that out of the five villages under military operation, four were recently asked by the STF to return to their villages, whereas some of them who returned were attacked by the terrorists again, adding that it was also  discovered that the  houses they left behind had also been destroyed by the Fulani.
