The goal of ensuring security of lives and property would be achieved in Nigeria if all citizens see the issue of security as part of their obligations.

A retired military officer, Colonel Femi Mapaiyeda, made the remark during a security awareness campaign held in Kabba, West Senatorial District of Kogi State.

Mepaiyeda, a guest speaker at the awareness campaign organised by the state government, said that the advancement of information technology which had reduced the world into a global village and proliferation of arms and ammunition had contributed to the increase in violence and other security challenges in Nigeria.

The guest speaker also enjoined government to find a lasting solution to the incessant clashes between Fulani and farmers in most parts of the Middle Belt, urging other communities in the country to emulate the religious harmony and tolerance existing in Kogi State.

He called on politicians to avoid the use of thugs and enjoined traditional and community leaders and all citizens to co-operate with law enforcement agencies to fight perpetrators of insecurity.

In his message at the occasion, Governor Idris Wada, who was represented by his Security Adviser, Air Commodore Matti Abdullahi (rtd), restated his zero tolerance for criminals in the state.

The Director of Kabba Bunnu Local Government, Mr Andrew Maha, said the security campaign was timely, urging the people of the area to co-operate with government in the efforts to keep the country safe.
