THE Nigeria Police, on Monday, announced the passing away of Hajia Mariam Mohammed Abubakar, wife of the Acting Inspector-General of Police, Mohammed Dahiru Abubakar, which sad event occurred on Monday, after a brief illness.

In a statement in Abuja on Monday, Force Public Relations Officer, DCP Olusola Amore, said that Hajia Abubakar, aged 48, was survived by her husband and three children. She has been buried according to Islamic rites in Kano.

Meanwhile, the remains of Hajiya Abubakar were committed to mother earth an hour before normal time announced over the radio, just as the movement to the cemetery were restricted

Prior to her burial, it was announced over the radio that she would be buried by 12.00 p.m at Tarauni Cemetery, where the remains of former governor of Kano State, Dr Abubakar Rimi, were buried.

However, the remains of the late Mariam Abubakar were buried some minutes before 12.00 p.m earlier announced.

A source. who preferred anonymity. said the change in time was due to security.

He added that the time of the burial had to be changed so as to catch people unawares as well as beat whoever might have a hidden agenda, in view of the prevailing security atmosphere in the state.

Meanwhile, President Goodluck Jonathan has expressed shock at the passing away of Mariam.

A statement issued by the Special Adviser to the President on Media and Publicity, Dr Reuben Abati, on Monday, said Jonathan, in a condolence message to the IGP, described Hajia Mariam’s death as “sad, painful and untimely,” especially at this time that her husband needed her moral and emotional support as he confronted the challenge of ensuring national security in his new post.

The president, on behalf of the Federal Government, prayed the almighty Allah to grant the soul of Hajia Mariam eternal rest and grant her husband and the family the strength to bear the irreplaceable loss.

President Jonathan sent a four-man Federal Government delegation, led by the Minister of Police Affairs, Caleb Olubolade to attend the burial and to sympa-thise with the family.

Also, the Senate President, David Mark, in his condolence message, said he was saddened that Mariam died at a time she was needed by her husband to pilot the affairs of the Nigeria Police.
