ARTISTE REVIEW: Sleeq releases Sugar Girl

ORIGINALITY in the music industry is often used in describing the act of staying true to one’s talent and at the same time, representing where one comes from. Sleeq, is one Nigerian artiste that has been able to combine African elements with western melodies into a contemporary style that is blazing a pathway for younger generations of African artistes to trail.

altIn his few years in the industry, Sleeq has proven to be a solid phenomenon that cannot be easily relegated to the background, contributing immensely to the growth of the industry, from his base in Abuja, both as an artiste and entertainment manager.

Born Olusegun Ayodeji Olorunmipa in Kogi State, Sleeq is a graduate of Estate Management, from the Federal University of Technology, Minna, the Niger State capital. Since 2005, Sleeq had kept it real with music, maintaining a top class form and working with some of the likes of MI, Styl Plus, Dare Art Alade, TY Mix, Sunky, Perez, Gospel and many others. Sleeq has just released a brand new single, “sugar girl”. The beat, lyrics and delivery tell a mixed tale of Africa and a contemporary melody. The single, within a short time after release, is already becoming a popular ringtone on the streets and enjoying massive downloads on blogs and internet download sites. Sugar Girl is also being played on radio and other broadcast platforms.

As a young admirable entrepreneur, Sleeq has also been using his S2DB Entertainment platform to raise other young talents from the streets. At present, S2DB is helping about five young Nigerian artistes discover potentials in their talents and living their dreams.

Having worked and collaborated with most of the big brands in the industry, it would be right to say ‘Sleeq has been there and done that’. In a chat with Friday Treat, he said, "I am determined to make art that honours the transitory sounds and events of everyday life". His rule-breaking venture is fast becoming known as a mechanism, performance and conceptual art paving the way to the avant-garde movements that wows audiences today.

At this point, just as a Master of Ceremony would want to put it, "Ladies and Gentlemen", meet another rising singer/manager and promoter from Nigeria, with a big heart yearning to impact the lives of others at all times.
