Mobile telecommunications outfit, MTN, has been declared a “socially responsible organisation by Rhrealyz Naija.
The award was given at its annual event held recently and tagged, ‘Rhealyz Naija Social Responsibility Mega Awards/Charity Event,’ which focused on the achievement of the Millennium Development Goals.
According to the organisation’s Team Leader, Mr Ireti Adesida, “the concept of the mega awards is to celebrate passionate men, women and organisations who have been able to take responsibility, on behalf of their immediate communities, in affecting lives and communities positively. The award encourages and showcases young people and organisations who are doing various impact-oriented community-based projects which make them serve as role models for youths.”
“Rhealyz Naija Social Responsibility Mega Awards/Charity Event is also a platform that gives young talented Nigerians the opportunity to showcase their talents/skills through dance, music, poetry, arts and fashion designing,” he added.
Recepients of the Rhealyz Naija 2011 MDGs Social Responsibility Awards Categories include MDGs Young Social Entrepreneur, Male Category: Mr Olusegun Akinsehinde; MDGs Young Social Entrepreneur, Female Category: Miss Blessing Ebiem; MDGs Young Farmer of the Year: Mr Orimoloye Adedayo; MDGs Reproductive Health Icon of the Year:Mrs Ayomide Adegbola; MDGs Community Development Icon of the Year: Miss Kofoworola Olaofe; MDGs Positive Use of the Media (Advocacy) Icon of the Year (radio), Mr Adedamola Adeniyi Martins; MDGs Mother and Child Health Icon of the Year: Miss Oluwaseun Afun; Motivating Parent of the Year: Mrs Margaret Aderibigbe Falayi; MDGs Advocate of the Year: Mr Akinwale Ojo; MDGs Advocate of the Year: Miss Jane Oleru; Young Talent of the Year: Michael Fadoju; Customer Friendly Staff of the Year (Eatery): Miss Taiwo Oladipo and Development Conscious Old Students’ Association of the Year: Fiwasaye Old Girls’ Association (FOGA)’
Others are: Special Recognition “Icon of Excellence,” Dr (Mrs) Modupe Ajayi, Mr Ayorinde Ogunruku and Professor Debo Adeyewa; MDGs Advocacy Project Special Recognition “Socially Responsible Organisation,” MTN Nigeria and Special Recognition “Role Model,” Her Excellency, Mrs Olukemi Mimiko.
The yearly event, which was held at Fonts Hall, Akure, was attended by youths across Ondo State and other neighbouring states, while principal officers of the state government were represented.
Bishop E. B. Gbonigi, who was the occasion’s chairman, challenged the youths to contribute to evolving a new Nigeria.
Rhealyz Naija also gave out school bags to an orphanage in Akure, while the team leader disclosed that 10 percent of the gate fee and other expected donations at the event would be used to make and distribute customized school bags to indigent students.
“This school bag project will support our existing community development outreach in various communities,” he said.
