IT took the trial of some suspected sponsors of the Boko Haram insurgency for Alhaji Sanda Konduga, the father of the convicted spokesman for the group, Ali Sanda Umar Konduga, to publicly affirm that his son was mentally ill. It was too late, however, because every simpleton can see an attempt in his apology to Senator Ali Ndume to use the claim of madness to possibly exculpate the embattled senator.

MANY Nigerians are, of course, convinced that one should be mentally ill to enlist in a group which takes a whip to western education yet uses the tools and products of western education to fight its cause. Only a mentally ill person will use mindless violence against hapless, harmless persons to make a statement about his deprivations or whatever he considers his grouse about the society. And this has been the trademark of the Boko Haram.

IN any case, is Alhaji Sanda Kodunga a doctor or a psychiatrist? So how does he expect to be taken seriously as a competent voice in this matter? What other form of madness has his son shown or manifested apart from his Boko Haram activities?

NOT even the marines will believe Alhaji  Konduga’s story about his son’s madness.
