THE AGE OF PATIENCE

Share

THE seemingly unobtrusive persona of President Goodluck Jonathan must be blamed for the rude  extremes to which some Nigerians are willing to take FOI Act. Otherwise, how can anybody explain the impudence of those critics who, probably jealous of the fortuitous circumstance of the President’s wife, will not be satisfied with the simplicity of an exotic quiet celebration of a birthday in Australia and the domestic romance of a husband feeding his wife with a piece of cake?

NOW they are asking how old the president’s wife is. True all of those who congratulated her on the pages of newspapers as if acting on instruction and in concert had demmured from mentioning her age, it definitely must be in the observance of the dictates of decency. As First Lady, she might be a public figure whose private details must be before the public but since the 1999 Nigerian Constitution has yet to recognise that office, such critics should know about the dictum; never ask a woman her age nor a man his salary!
