Legend promo: Search for crown corks hots up

In a bid to reward its teeming consumers for their unflinching loyalty to its Legend Extra Stout brand, the Nigeria Breweries, the brewers of the brand, inaugurated its consumer campaign, Legend Real Deal promo, on May 1, 2012.

Interestingly, since the commencement of the promo, the traffic towards the brand has continued to grow on a daily basis, resulting in a phenomenal leap both in its sales and ratings among beer drinkers.

Various items including generating sets, 32” LCD television, Blackberry phones and cash prizes amongst others are being carted away daily by lucky winners, while the promo has continued to generate a wild scramble for Legend crown corks, since many consumers of the brand see it as their ticket to fantastic prizes.

For instance, 30-year- old Onafuye Olushola, winner of a brand new LCD TV, described it ‘as a dream come true.’ The  Car Wash operator and a father of three is still in ecstatic mood over the coveted prize  he won courtesy of the promo.

“I never imagined that I could win a prize like this. But I thank God and Nigerian Breweries for this gesture. I have been fatefully keeping my crown-corks and finally my faith has paid off,” he said.

According to Olushola, he had to increase his consumption of Legend in order to increase his chances of winning. Though it finally paid off, he was quick to say that quite a number of crown corks were amassed in his quest to win the television.

Another winner of a television, Sergeant Sunday Damisa of the Ikeja Cantonment also has his own tale to tell about the legend crown corks.

“I was faithfully keeping my crown corks because I had faith that I would win something. Most of my colleagues were laughing at me but I knew what I was doing. Today it is a different story with this brand new television that I have won,” he said.

The story is certainly different for the Edo State born soldier who seems to be having the last laugh. Interestingly, Sergeant Damisa is not resting on his oars either. He intends to form a club of Legend drinkers comprising officers from the Ikeja Cantonment.

Mrs Anike Fayemi, a bar operator is yet another winner of a television via the promo. She still can’t believe that all it took for her to become the owner of an LCD television was just a crown cork.

‘The last prize that I won in a promo was 18 years ago. Today I have won an LCD television and I am the happiest person in the world. All it took was just one crown cork,” she said.

What makes the prize even more memorable according to Mrs Anike Fayemi was that she didn’t even set out to win anything in the promo.

“I never really intended to be one of the winners in the first place. I remember that I only checked the crown cork as an afterthought. Even when I was told that I had won the television, I couldn’t believe that just one crown cork would materialise into a brand new television,’ she stated.

Edo State born trader, Martins Kris, who recently won the sum of N5, 000, is unrelenting.

“I don’t mind if they call me Legend Crown cork collector. All I know is that I want to win more prizes, and to do that I must get the right crown cork,” he stated, even as he took delivery of a Automatic Teller Machine, ATM card, pre-loaded with N5,000 in Lagos recently.

Interestingly, as the promo gradually grinds to a halt, the search for the winning Legend crown corks seems to intensify.

According to the Senior Brand Manager, Legend-Nigeria Breweries Plc., Mr Funso Ayeni, the brand had witnessed an increase in sales since the promo began.

‘There has been a fierce demand for Legend crown corks, and our records show a phenomenal increase in the demand for Legend, while sales is skyrocketing,” he stated.
