The Dr Mu’azu Babamgida Aliyu- led admin-istration in Niger state, has left no one in doubt since its inception that the government has an ambitious plan to make the state into one of the three most developed states in Nigeria by the year 20-20. The attainment of this vision is largely dependent on the viability of its small and medium scale industries which is the back bone of any meaningful economic development.

Unlike most public hearings conducted in the National Assembly, the one done by the Finance Committee of the Senate on the new Customs Bill was historic. Those present were convinced that the bill, initiated from the Lower Chamber was timely. The new legislation sought to repeal the existing Act which has been in existence before Nigeria’s Independence.
