Vice Chairman, Ogbako Ndi Anambra and Chairman Planning Committee of Third Anambra Cultural Day celebration, Nze Francis Onuora, has declared that Igbo residing in Warri, Effurun and its environs have no king in the aforementioned areas.

The chairman of all chairmen of Ndigbo Traders Associations, who spoke with journalists during the third Anambra Cultural Day celebrations at the Urhobo College Sport Complex explained that the Igbo in the area used to celebrate the Igbo Day like other Igbo the world over before the issue of kingship of the Igbo in  Warri came up three years ago.

Nze Onuora who said that he was speaking the minds of a majority of the Igbo in the area, who were predominantly traders, disclosed that the issue of kingship of Igbo had caused a lot of division in the area, making it difficult for them to peacefully celebrate the annual Igbo Day like others.

He explained that the Ohanaeze Ndigbo, the  cultural umbrella body of the Igbo worldwide, recognises only the position of President of Ohanaeze branches in non Igbo areas and that the culture of having king by them outside their area was alien.

 “So, we the people of Anambra living in Warri, Effurun and environs cannot just fold our hands. Since there is this division, we decided three years ago that we should be celebrating the creation of Anambra State which we tagged as Anambra Cultural Day. This was exactly how the celebration of Anambra Cultural Day came about,” Nze Onuora explained.

The occasion featured special masquerades from the South East and cultural display by Anambra State Socio-Cultural groups in the area.

The position of Nze Onuara on the non recognition of a King of Igbo in Warri, Effurun and its environs was amplified by Chief Athanasius Iwuchukwu, Special Adviser (SA) to Governor Uduaghan on non-indigenes in Delta State who confirmed at the occasion that there was no Eze of Igbo in Warri, Effrun and its environs.
