‘50 women are holding political offices in Ogun’

Ogun State Commissioner for Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs Elizabeth Sonubi, has said that more than 50 women were currently holding  various political posts in the state.

Sonubi said this while briefing members of Ogun State House of Assembly Committee on Women Affairs who visited the ministry to appraise its performance in the implementation of  this year's budget.

She also said that more than 350 women from the 236 wards of the state had been empowered by the ministry.

‘’I want to tell you that Children’s Parliament has been inaugurated at the state level while efforts are being made to replicate it at the local government level,’’ she added.

In her remarks, Hon. Elizabeth Anifowose, the Chairman, House Committee advised the commissioner  to  ensure that more women at the grassroots benefited from the existing government empowerment programmes.

The chairman said that the committee's visit would  enable the House to know the progress so far made by the ministry and areas of improvement.

In her contribution, Hon. Adijat Oladapo, a member of the committee, commended the ministry for supporting disadvantaged persons in the state.

‘’ I urge the ministry to intensify efforts on revenue generation,’’ she said.
