The Kwara State government has said that it had concluded plans to revive five moribund technical schools in the state to train unemployed youths in vocational skills.

Mr Kayode Towoju, the state's Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, made the announcement in Ilorin at  a one-day sensitisation programme for voluntary youth organisations.

He said that Gov. Abdulfatah Ahmed would next month lay a foundation store of an International Vocation Centre as part of the effort to  re-direct the state's education curriculum to favour talented artisans and technicians in the state.
Towoju said that Kwara State had various examples of enviable roles that youths played in maintaining peace and stability.

The commissioner urged youths to continue to serve as voices for the voiceless, especially among their contemporaries.

He also charged them to stand firm as special advocates for peace and growth of Nigeria and to encourage government to implement existing framework for peace, security and human development.

Towoju said the ministry was aspiring to make Kwara a “State of Harmony.
“We wish to give  orientation for peace to youths in  Kwara State and make them role models for peace within the state and the nation in general.
“We also aim to disabuse the minds of Kwara youths about violence at this time of  security challenge facing our dear country.”

Earlier, Hajiya Aishat Mohammed, the Director of Youth Development,  said that the programme was designed to re-orientate participants towards  becoming  role models.

“It is an undisputable fact that our dear country Nigeria is now witnessing series of criminal tendencies of our youths.

“This unfortunate and horrible situation should not be left to continue to rear its ugly head, hence the Ministry of Sports and Youth Development deems it fit to organise this programme," she stated.
