The newly completed Multimillion Naira Delta State Secretariat Annex on Maryam Babangida Way, Asaba, will be officially inaugurated and handed over to the state government on 15th February, 2015.

The state commissioner for Housing, Chief Paulinus Akpeki disclosed this  while inspecting the project.

Chief Akpeki said the take-over of the building would ease  the accommodation problem facing some government ministries and parastatals currently occupying rented buildings in the state capital.

He commended the contractor for a job well done and debunked the rumors that there were cracks on the building.

The commissioner said contrary to such uninformed rumours, the building had been perfectly completed and was safe for occupation by the workers.

Chief Akpeki directed that the premises of the secretariat should be kept clean by officials of the ministry, adding that  other finishing touches put in place to speed up the process.

The Architectural Consultant, Mr. Tema Uku, who coroborated the claim of the commissioner, said there were no cracks on the building, saying that what people were mistaking for cracks, were in fact, what he called expansion joints.

He said it was a deliberate spacing seen in any standard building above 100ft height for durability purposes.

Conducting the commissioner and his team round the building, the Managing Director of the contracting Firm, Mr. Dumebi Nwachukwu, said they had already carried out a test run of the facilities, and appealed to media practitioners to verify reports before publication.

He explained that major equipment had been installed at strategic points in the building including the fire hydrand, fire detectors, air conditioners and power plants, pointing out that the secretariat complex will be ready for official hand over to the Delta State Government on the 15th February, 2012.
