Operator of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Terminal Two (MMA2), Bi-Courtney Aviation Services Limited (BASL), has appealed to motorists visiting or making use of the terminal to always obey traffic rules.

The appeal, it said in a statement signed by its Public Relations Officer (PRO), Steve Omolale-Ajulo, had become necessary in view of the current security challenges facing the country and the rampant flagrant disobedience of traffic signs at the airport in recent times by many motorists.

The statement observed that “some motorists are in the habit of just driving into the airport, parking indiscriminately at ‘drop-off zone’ or picking passengers at unauthorised places, thereby causing obstruction to the free flow of traffic at the terminal and inconveniencing other motorists”.

BASL said the current security challenges made it imperative for motorists and other terminal users to be thoroughly screened by the Security Department of MMA2 and urged the motorists to co-operate with the security agents in the performance of their duties.

It further said that since traffic signs had been erected at conspicuous points at the airport, “no motorist has any excuse to disobey the signs,” warning that offenders would be sanctioned accordingly.

The statement advised motorists, who want to stay longer at the terminal, to make use of its 800-vehicle capacity Multi-Storey Car Park (MSCP), “where a token is charged, instead of parking at ‘no parking zones’”.

The statement added: “Unlike other airports in the country, MMA2 is an orderly place where there are rules and regulations guiding its operations. These rules and regulations are supposed to make the airport conducive to all users. Therefore, every motorist, passenger or visitor to the terminal, as well as worker, is expected to obey the traffic rules and regulations without any exemption”.

While regretting the inconveniences the screening might cause them, the statement, however, said “it is for the good of all”.
