CBN dep gov advocates review of academic curricula in tertiary institutions

DEPUTY Governor, Central Bank of Nigeria (Financial Sector Surveillance), Mr. Tunde Lemo, has advocated the review of the academic curricular of tertiary institutions in the country to make them responsive to the needs to industries and the society at large.

Delivering a lecture entitled: “The problem of Graduate Unemployment in Nigeria” at a special luncheon commemorating the second anniversary of the Tai Solarin University of Education, held in Abeokuta, Mr. Lemo said the review was imperative against the backdrop of the current high rate of unemployment and under- utilisation of human capital in the country.

Mr. Lemo, in a statement by the Information Officer to the Ogun State governor, Mr. Ayokunle Ewuoso, pointed out that the academic programmes should have bias for science and technology which, he said, had the potential for promoting industrial and Information Techology (IT) revolutions.

He added that there was the need to refocus the curricular to bring about practice-oriented and self-employment focused education.
