FG to constitute committee on Niger Delta summit

The Federal Government will, in the next two weeks, constitute committee to put together a summit on the Niger Delta problem.

Vice President Goodluck Jonathan said this at Kiagbodo in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta State on Saturday during a thanksgiving service to mark the 80th birthday of the Ijaw leader, Chief Edwin Clark.

He said the committee would have been set up before now but for the fact that the person that would head it was yet to be released by an international agency that he works for.

Dr. Jonathan assured that the forum would not be another seminar or conference, but to aggregate all the products of earlier seminars and conferences and collate them into a working document.

“The days of that are over. We want to embark on action now. We want to collate all the papers that will form the bulk of our action. The person that will chair the committee works with an international agency and will need the permission of that agency,” he added.
