FG commences stricter implementation

Gbola Subair, Abuja - 31.01.2008

Evaders of personal Income Tax are now in for trouble as the Federal Government commences stricter implementation of Personal Income Tax

To ensure that the country generates enough revenue, the Federal Inland Revenue Service (FIRS), according to the Nigerian Tribune, is advocating regular review of revenue laws

Indications of trouble for evaders of Personal Income Tax, emerged on Tuesday in Kano when the Executive chairman of FIRS, Ms Ifueko Omoigui-Okauru, through the Acting Coordinating Director, Tax Operations Group, Mr. Elias Sulu, presented a paper on ‘Harnessing Nigeria’s Revenue: Problems and Prospects’ at the workshop by the Public Accounts Committee of the House of Representatives.

Omoigui-Okauru indicated that local governments, states and the Federal Government are now to collaborate on the usage of database as an effective platform for Personal Income Tax administration system.

The FIRS Executive Chairman said the government had developed a unique tax payer identification number, which when in place, and with the cooperation of the states and local government councils, will provide a database that would provide the platform for an effective personal income tax administration system.
