I have faith in judiciary - Akume

In spite of the cancellation of his election and the order for a fresh election within 60 days from the day of judgment, the senator for Benue North West senatorial district, Senator George Akume, has expressed confidence in the judiciary.

He urged his supporters to remain calm as “status quo ante is maintained pending the determination of his appeal against the judgment of the state election petition tribunal.”

The former state governor, whose election was nullified due to what the tribunal called electoral fraud, told his supporters, who paid a solidarity visit to his residence in Makurdi on Tuesday that he was undaunted by the judgment, saying that he had directed his counsel to appeal against the judgment.

“While I reiterate my confidence in the integrity of the Justice Uriri-led tribunal that sat over this election petition, I call on all my teeming supporters from Benue North West senatorial district , the entire Benue State and the country at large to remain calm as status quo ante is maintained pending the determination of the appeal,” he said.

“As you are aware, the election tribunal sitting in Makurdi in its judgment on January 24, 2008, voided the mandate you freely and voluntarily gave to me in the April 28, 2007 election to serve you as senator,” he told his supporters.
