Ex-DIG’s murder trial stalled

A former Deputy Inspector General of Police, Mr. Yekini Jimoh, whose trial was to come up on Thursday did not hold as the case was stalled following the absence of the magistrate, Mr. Moses Adegbite, at the court as a result of his being on leave.

The former DIG was brought to court on Thursday but surprisingly, the court could not sit as a result of the absence of the judge. It was at this point that the former DIG was returned to the prison to wait for another date to be chosen by the court when his case will be mentioned.

Mr. Jimoh had on October 23 this year, at Amir Suites situated at Adewole area of Ilorin, shot his wife, Mrs. Folashade Jimoh, several time on the neck and thigh during a misunderstanding between the two in the hotel.

The woman was said to have been rushed to the University of Ilorin Teaching Hospital for medical attention, but she died a week after.

The retired DIG, who was arrested and bailed after the incident, was re-arrested after the death of his wife and charged with culpable homicide at the Chief Magistrate Court in Ilorin.

The former DIG was later arraigned at the court. The Police Prosecutor, Mr. Samuel Mayowa, prayed the court to substitute the FIR, dated 29 October 2007 of file number MCIA/546/2007 which carried the offence of attempted murder to that of MCIA/ 584/2007 with the offence of culpable homicide punishable under Section 224 of the Criminal Procedure Code.
