Kogi committee receives N100m to fight HIV/AIDS

THE Project Manager of the Kogi State Action Committee on AIDS, Hajia Rabiat Ajana, has said that the committee had received about N100 million to fight the disease in the last few years.

In her address as part of the activities marking the 2007 World AIDS Day, Ajana said that the money was used for sensitisation, enlightenement and other programmes of the committee.

She said the state government had been supportive of the committee, adding that the disease had reduced from 5.7 per cent to 5.5 per cent in the last one year.

Ajana said further that the state was a beneficiary of the fifth round of the Global Fund grants for the fight against HIV/AIDS, tuberculosis and malaria in the country.

She added that two anti-retroviral treatment sites had already been activated in the state to offer comprehensive HIV/AIDS treatment, care and support services in the state.

The project manager explained that a few other international organisations were currently in the state preparing more sites.
