Olaiya predicts brighter future for Nigerian B’Ball

Niyi Alebiosu, Lagos - 30.04.2008

President of the Nigeria School Sports Federation (NSSF), Dr. Leke Olaiya has predicted brighter future for Nigeria in the game of basketball, just as Luminary Secondary School, Asaba, Delta State, emerged the overall winner at an invitational basketball championship held in Durban, South Africa.

Olaiya, in a text message to Tribunesports shortly after the Nigerian sole representative at the week-long championship won its last match against a selected side, expressed hope that the game of basketball would be given the necessary support by government.

According to him, the performance put up by the students of Luminary school really showed that brighter future awaits the game in the country, noting, however, that “there is the need for proper planning and regular competitions within schools and youth clubs in the country which will bring out the best out of them”.

Though he was of the view that the game has not been enjoying the best of support in recent times, Olaiya believed that things will be better at the end of the day.
