State have confirmed
the murder of one Ibrahim Muhammad, an undergraduate of the University of Maiduguri at the Gandu quarters of the state capital by yet to be identified persons.
Confirming the murder to newsmen in his office, the Deputy Commissioner of Police, Mr. Nicholas Nkemedem, said the police had not made any arrest but were on the trail of the perpetrators of the act.
Sources at the scene of the murder said the deceased was stabbed in the stomach by his assailants, a development which led to his death.
Also, the state police command was still investigating an attack on a 400 Level Business Administration student of the university, Hamza Mu’azu Hassan, who was wounded by some hoodlums at the premises of the Jewel Suites, which has since been closed down and is now being guarded by policemen.
Though a few arrests have been made in connection with the attack, the police said revelations which might lead to more arrests had been made while all those linked with the attack would be prosecuted as soon as investigations were concluded.
In another development, a joint army/police patrol team in Taraba State on Tuesday killed three suspected armed robbers and arrested 11 others.
The arrest, made in two different locations, Kahimbilla in Taraba State and Katsina-ala/Takum in Benue and Taraba States, followed a tip off.
The patrol team said weapons such as AK 47 rifles, guns, charms, knives and arrows were recovered during the 40-minute encounter with the robbers
Addressing newsmen, the Taraba State Police Commissioner, Mr. Richard Chime, thanked the team for a job well done.
According to him, the gang specialised in robbing market men and women on the highways.
