Bauchi gov wants Shariah included in constitution

Ishola Michael, Gombe - 30.04.2008

As the National Assembly embarks on the process of amending the 1999 Constitution, the Bauchi State governor, Mallam Isa Yuguda, has called for the support of state houses of assembly and the National Assembly for the enrechment of Shariah in the constitution
The governor, who made the call while declaring open the third national conference of Sharia implementing states in the country, stated that the support of both states and the National Assembly was necessary to ensure that Shariah was legally entrenched.

Yuguda, represented by his deputy, Garba Muhammad Gadi, said at the inception of his administration, he observed that the implementation of Sharia in the state was not effective, a situation which informed the decision of his government to send a study group to states which are implementing the Islamic legal system with a view to strengthening the system.
